Crystal Cave

Crystal Cave

This cave is part of St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park, located off the Hummingbird Highway.

Crystal Cave (officially known as Mountain Cow Cave) offers world class cave beauty and many Maya artifacts.  The cave terrain is slick clay mud over big rocks.  You need to be physically fit to do this cave.

There are two parking lots at the park - one is where you will find the inland Blue Hole spring, and the other is where you will find the caves and the Visitors Center.  There are hiking trails connecting the two areas.
Getting to Crystal Cave (you must have a guide):
  • Tours from tour operators in Hopkins are available.  A tour guide is required.
  • You can drive to St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park on your own and take a tour from Belize Inland Tours (located on-site near the Visitors Center)

Here are Important things to remember:
  • You will need to go to the cave with a guide that is specifically certified for Crystal Cave.
  • This caving experience IS NOT one of those paved path cave tours.....it is technical, and you need to be physically fit. In two places you are required to do a short rappel.
  • YOU CAN BRING A CAMERA - You can still bring a camera into Crystal Cave, but be careful not to drop it.
  • Crystal Cave is more strenuous and warmer than ATM cave. If you are fit and you can make good speed then the guide will take you to another incredible area where you can only wear socks.
  • You will be hiking on slick clay on rocks most of the day.
  • You can expect to pay $100-$150 USD per person (including transportation, lunch, helmet, headlamp and park fees)
