Hiking

Hiking opportunities are abundant and diverse near Hopkins!

We have listed several hiking locations in the Land Destinations section of this site.  However, there are other hiking/walking opportunities that will also be discussed here.

Here are nearby places to do some great hikes:
  1. Hopkins Beach walk - In Hopkins the first 60 feet of beach is public, so you can walk the beach for the entire length of the village if you want to.  The south side beach walk now has several bars and restaurants to visit along the way.  The north side beach walk is most interesting because you will encounter 8-10 bars and restaurants along the way, and at the far north end you will get to a natural area known locally as "Hawaii Beach".  Here are 3 stories showing the hike.

  2. Hopkins Village walk There are a lot of gift shops and little restaurants in Hopkins.  All of these are properly represented on Google maps on your smart phone.  You can download the maps to your phone and then you will have the keys to the village as you walk.  Definitely set aside some time to walk around the village because these are some of the nicest, friendliest people on earth.
  3. Waterfalls -  There are 9 waterfalls not far from Hopkins. Click here for more info on waterfalls hikes.
  4. Jungle Hikes - The best places for jungle hikes are:
    1. Mayflower Bocawina National Park - There is a fairly easy trail through the Mayan ruins here, and the trails to the waterfalls are more difficult. You can also go zip lining or waterfall repelling at the resort here.
    2. Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (the Jaguar Preserve) - There are easy to difficult trails of all lengths here. You can also go river tubing.
    3. St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park - There are several trails here, as well as a natural spring and caves (tour required).
